New York, I Don't Love You in a Wheelchair

I really liked 2006's Paris, Je T'aime, so I'm hesitant to see the awfully reviewed follow-up New York, I Love You, which was released last Friday. Like Paris, the new movie is a collection of vignettes, rather than one story, each set in a different New York neighborhood.

One of its eleven directors, Brett Ratner, is best known for the craptastic Rush Hour series and for directing a slew of mediocre music vids, including Mariah Carey's still-in-rotation "Obsessed". In a recent interview, Ratner explains how the story of losing his virginity became a part of New York, I Love You:

It's probably my most personal film. When I sent the original script, which is autobiographical, the producers would not let me film it because, in the original ending, she (the girl) is a cripple, and they have sex as she's hanging from a tree in Central Park. Everyone was freaking out over my short, so I changed it to where she wasn't a cripple, but an actress pretending to be a cripple.

Hmm. The quote doesn't exactly fill my heart with high expectations. If you've already seen the film, let us know what you thought in the comments.

Here's a vignette (that I do like) from Paris, Je T'aime featuring Natalie Portman breaking up with her blind boyfriend, played by Melchior Beslon, who is (surprise, surprise) actually blind in real life.
