Accessible Intercourse Episode 1
Lulu and I just filmed our first Accessible Intercourse podcast, wherein we answer all your burning disability, sex, and relationship questions.
This week: the political correctness of using the word "lame"; the disability coolness hierarchy; and whether crips prefer dating other crips.
Send your questions in here, and expect more controversy every two weeks.

Toshio-Is it OK for me to use the word ‘lame’ to refer to something that’s sucks? And if not, uh, can you suggest a word to replace it.
Lulu-That’s a good question, uh
T-I have to say that sometimes when you’re not around I have...I’ve used the word lame, like to refer to something that sucks. Just cause it’s like… It’s hard to find
L-It’s catchy…
T-…a perfect replacement
T-It’s one syllable, super easy to use
L-Yeah, I know…
T-Rolls off the tongue
L-I know disabled people who say lame
T-(takes a swig of beer) OK
L-I don’t, not anymore also just cause I’m kinda over it. I feel like it’s been used
T-OK
L-Sooo much
T-It’s kinda 90’s
L-I say ‘whack’, which is also very old school
T-That’s yeah…
L-But it doesn’t have the disability connotation, so I don’t know. I would say, lame isn’t super offensive but I don’t use it.
T-In the disabled community what disabilities are considered the coolest, and which are the least cool. Abled body people rate, like what they would rather have… in terms
L-Right,
T-…of a disability…
L-People always do that anyway. Would you rather be blind or deaf
T-(beer swigs) hmm that’s true
L-Abled bodied people, that’s their favorite game, drinking game
T-(Laughs)
L-Sooo
T-I’d probably played it like once or twice in my lifetime
L-Yeah, I think your experiences shape you. And I think people who kind are oppressed or marginalized are gonna, maybe have a lot interesting experiences and stories and have a wider, uh, girth of experiences. That’s the wrong word. A wide array
T-Depth…
L-A wide array
T-That works
L-…of experiences. So, I wouldn’t say there was a ‘coolest’ disability. Unless you’re talking about me
T-Uh-huh.
L-And what’s the worse disability…
T-The opposite of you
L-Yes
T-OK
L-Good
T-Do disabled people tend to date other disabled people?
L-I have never dated anyone who was physically disabled. I’ve dated people with learning disabilities.
T-K…
L-Um, I would certainly like to, date someone who’s also disabled 'cause…
T-'Cause you have like some of the same experiences…draw from some of the same experiences
L-Exactly
T-…like if I was to date another Asian, which I actually did once
L-Oh yeah?
T-And I told him that I was dating him because he was Asian and I’d never tried it before and
L-Did that kill the mood
T-Yeah, that didn’t really go over very well
L-I bet it did. I would love to date a disabled person… and I think uh
T-(beer swig)
L-…disabled people can be really sexy and wonderful
T-What about a disabled Asian person?
L-No doubt
T-No doubt? Alright.
L-Call me, I’m single
T-Alright well all you disabled Asian people out there, somebody’s available. I guess that brings us to the end
L-Of Accessible Intercourse
T-Yes, tune in next time, whenever next time is
L-Soon
T-Peace
